Start with a test
Every machine, lens and material batch behaves differently. Run a small power/speed test grid on scrap before engraving a full order.
Wood & MDF
- Use masking tape or transfer paper to reduce smoke residue on light woods.
- Engrave with the grain direction in mind on hardwoods for a more even result.
- MDF produces more smoke — keep ventilation and air assist on.
Acrylic
- Engrave cast acrylic on the back side (reversed artwork) for a clean front face.
- Leave protective film on where possible while cutting; remove it before engraving the surface.
Focus & alignment
- Re-check focus when switching thicknesses.
- Use a jig for batch work so every piece lands in the same place.
Cleanup
See Care & Finishing for cleaning and sealing.
These are general tips. Follow your laser manufacturer's safety instructions at all times, and never leave a running laser unattended.
